I translate fiction, nonfiction, and children's literature from Finnish, German, and Swedish into English, and I have a particular passion for modern classics and children's literature. I have an extensive network around the world and work with a variety of actors including publishers, agents, authors, academics, cultural institutions, and translators.
EDUCATION I hold a Ph.D. in Scandinavian Studies from the University of Washington, Seattle, with a focus on Finnish literature and cultural studies. I am a 2017 graduate of the Finnish to English literary translation mentorship program organized by FILI, Finland's literary export agency.
AWARDS AND HONORS I am the 2023 Nadia Christensen Translation Prize winner for my translation excerpt from Finnish of Pirkko Saisio's Pienin yhteinen jaettava (The Lowest Common Denominator). Awarded by the American Scandinavian Foundation.
In 2021 I received an honorable mention for the Nadia Christensen Prize for my translation excerpt from Finnish of Pirkko Saisio’s Punainen erokirja (The Red Book of Farewells). Awarded by the American Scandinavian Foundation.
